A Surprise for Me!

Last night a bunch of my friends from my former group at Sloan and sweet, sweet Kendra, that I do yoga with, got together at my dear friend Lisa’s house.  We have this gathering once every few months, sometimes out at a bar, but recently, we seem to migrate to Lisa’s home, because she has the perfect space.

As people arrived, I watched a few of them go to the downstairs area and comeback up a few minutes later…I figured that they were helping Lisa with something, or that there was some sort argument going on that they were trying to quietly resolve.  Then…they all came together facing me with gifts in hand!!!! I was so surprised, happy, and overwhelmed with joy!!!

Inside a beautifully made hatbox they gave me lovely books, an adorable dress, an awesome gift card. and meaningful movies with titles just for me, like “Kick Ass”!!  I gotta tell you…these ladies are Kick Ass!!  The smile they left on my face was the best!!!!!

I’ve been having a hard time lately, emotionally, not knowing how I really feel, terrified of the unknown (as anyone can be) but having those hospital stays, being in so much pain, and not knowing if i will get better, scares the crap out of me.. I’m trying to get out of this, but it will take time and I’m certain many tears…..so I am thanking you ahead of time for your love, kindness, and lending ear.

The Fabulous, Loving Group

What a wonderful surprise from your group! I can only imagine how loved and happy you felt, just the salve you need right now as you grapple with the uncertainty you described. Keep riding that wave! Sending you love and light. xxxooo

  3. Kendra says:

We love you so so so much, dear Jennifer. SO much.

We will all be here for you honey. When I think back on the past few months you’ve had, who wouldn’t be having a hard time? This (fighting cancer, getting treatment, figuring out who you are) is a long, hard process, and you are right in that it just takes time to figure out where you fit in it. I wish I could take it all away for you. Just know that through the tears and the smiles and the tears that will likely follow again you are surrounded by so very much love. And that you are surrounded by it because of who you are and what you’ve done with your life. You are truly inspiring – but not in a Hallmark way, in Kick Ass kind of way.

Sending you love love love and hopes for a treatment that will finally come today!!

how lucky are you to have these woman in your life? i always write and re-write my comments because i don’t ever want to minimize the enormity of your life events right now…and i continue to see so much “gold” in the path you are travelling. while the fact that none of us is guaranteed tomorrow does not lessen the reality of your experience, it needs to remind all of us that every moment we have can add meaning and be precious if we are paying attention. i just can’t help but revel in the beauty of the friendships you have made, and continue to make. i read the words of these woman and think, man, i want to be friends with them. many of our experiences with other woman are the cattiness, gossip, competitiveness that we can all be found guilty of. but when the chips are down, and one of our sisters needs us…wow, i am just honestly brought to tears at the thoughtfulness and outpouring of love that your friends took the time to surround you with. as i said to sasha, you all belong to an exclusive group, that no one wants to join…but once you are in, you discover a strength, and a beauty, and friendships that rival anything you knew before “cancer-land”. i love you , jenny. imagine the celebration you will all have when a cure is found! keep fighting, keep celebrating your friendships…i love you!!! ❤
